Twenty Transit Homes Ready For Occupancy Before Aidiladha
PENANG, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- At least 20 families from Tanjung Bungah whose houses were destroyed by the tsunami on Dec 26 can look forward to a decent Aidiladha on Jan 21.
They will be given keys to the transit homes before the festival. They will be living there for a few months until more decent homes are built for them.
This was the assurance given by the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdullah Thursday.
He said that the state authorities were in the process of building 41 units of the transit homes, with 20 of them scheduled for completion before the Hari Raya Haji.
They are part of the 100 units of transit homes pledged in three locations for the victims from Kampung Masjid, Tanjung Bungah, which was badly affected by the giant waves.
The RM1 million project is being undertaken by the Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad.
The entire project to redevelop Kampung Masjid which involves the construction of 100 units of five-storey apartments and an embankment along the shore, is expected to be completed in two years.
Since tsunami hit their kampung on Dec 26, about 100 victims from 24 affected families have been taking shelter at the relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Bungah.
